June 29th, 2024. CRESTON, IA — 12th Annual Chalk the Town, Prairie Walk and Draw, and more fun and engaging activities with Creston Arts this month at the Arts Center.
2024 Chalk The Town
Due to forecasted rain, Chalk with Us has been rescheduled to Balloon Days weekend in September. Creston Arts seeks volunteers - groups or individuals - to help chalk in the event. No experience is necessary! Businesses and organizations are encouraged to become a sponsor. More information to come soon.
Chalk the Town, now called Chalk with Us, is a Creston Arts program that partners with the Chamber of Commerce and area youth to decorate the town for thousands of visitors for Independence Day celebrations. Businesses, and now individuals, will still be welcome to join us and support this event by sponsoring a chalk mural, however, all of the murals will be along the Walk of Chalk, located on the north side of the 400 block of Adams St., near the Creston Arts Center. Those who want to sponsor a chalk mural at their location or Walk of Chalk can do so by going to www.crestonarts.com/chalk-the-town.
Prairie Walk and Draw
The Prairie Walk and Draw group continues into this month. In this group, participants embark on a leisurely walk through the scenic trails of Green Valley State Park, allowing them to connect with nature and find inspiration. While walking, attendees are encouraged to capture their surroundings through sketching in their sketchbooks. This group will meet every Thursday from 5 to 6 P.M. starting June 6th and ending on August 1st. This group is sponsored by the Iowa Prairie Network. The Iowa Prairie Network is a grassroots, volunteer, organization that is dedicated to the preservation of Iowa's prairie heritage. IPN was formed in 1990 by Iowans concerned that our prairie heritage was disappearing.

This month’s poetry workshop combines creative writing with collage in “Collage Poems.” Materials will be provided but participants are welcome to bring their magazines and other supplies. The group will meet at the Creston Arts Center from 12 to 2 P.M. Thursday, July 4th.
