SCULPTURAL WORK AT THE CRESTON ARTS DEPOT GALLERY

July 24th, 2024. CRESTON, IA - The work of retired professor and professional sculpturalist Patrick Luber will be displayed at Creston Arts Depot Gallery for the month of August.

This exhibit will showcase sculptural work made with found and repurposed materials that continue the engagement between art and religion. Luber uses contemporary visual strategies such as the spiritualization of found materials, the recontextualization of objects from material and popular culture, and craft to express various theological ideas, the practice of contemplative prayer, and the relationship between religious ideas and various aspects of culture.

Raised on a farm near Pocahontas, IL, Luber received a BA degree from Greenville College in Greenville, IL, and MA and MFA degrees in sculpture from the University of New Mexico. Luber’s work is included in the permanent collection of the North Dakota Museum of Art, the University of North Dakota, the Sioux City Art Center, Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX, the Ina Mae Rue Entrepreneurial Center Art Collection, Grand Forks, ND, the Henry Luce III Center for Art & Religion, Washington, DC, and numerous private collections.

In addition to his award-winning artwork, Luber has presented numerous lectures on the intersection of art, religion, and American culture at regional and national conferences. Luber taught sculpture at the University of North Dakota from 1990-2022 and now resides in West Des Moines.
